Cloth Fair Chambers is located in one of the oldest houses in the City of London. It survived the great fire of London through the good fortune of being within the walls of the ancient Priory of St Bartholomew, the oldest house in the City of London is next door. Cloth Fair was for many years the largest cloth market in Europe. The main beam in chambers had to be restored using modern resin injection techniques having been virtually snapped in two by centuries of weighing heavy bales of cloth from it.
Chambers commissioned a history of this ancient part of the City of London from Bronwen Riley, copies of this history, detailing the fascinating past and present of the 300 yards of Cloth Fair are available for those interested in Chambers.
