Ian Winter QC secured a full acquittal for his client, John Scouler, charged by the SFO with fraud and false accounting. The charges were brought after the SFO’s investigation into Tesco following the company’s announcement to the stock market in 2014 that it’s profits had been inflated. Mr Scouler was formerly the UK food commercial director at Tesco.
Following the prosecution’s case, Sir John Royce agreed with the submissions made by Ian Winter QC of no case to answer. That decison was upheld by the Court of Appeal as they denied the SFO’s application for a terminatory ruling.
