Cloth Fair Chambers is involved with a wide range of causes, both financially and in practical ways, and takes its social responsibilities seriously. In addition to fostering the development of future lawyers, we aim to engage with our local community and also to sponsor exceptional individuals whose achievements pave the way for others to follow in their footsteps. With so many organisations and persons deserving of support, we have chosen those who are somehow aligned with either our work or the local community.
The following are some of the causes that we currently support:
The Kalisher Trust
The Kalisher Trust transforms the lives of bright young people through the development of advocacy skills. They have two central aims; to help bright youngsters achieve their potential through advocacy and to help those with the requisite ability and ambition to develop careers as barristers at the criminal bar. We are pleased to have been able to support their work on an ongoing basis since 2006. https://www.thekalishertrust.org/
Cloth Fair Chambers Law Sponsorship
Chambers will provide financial sponsorship to one student who has completed their education up to A-Level in a non-fee-paying school based in the locality around Chambers and who is enrolled to start a law degree in September. In addition to the provision of financial support, the student will be offered work experience arranged by Chambers.
Shakespeare Schools Foundation
Shakespeare Schools Foundation (SSF) is a cultural education charity that gives young people across the UK the confidence to succeed in life. The world’s largest youth drama festival lies at the heart of SSF’s transformative process. Every year, they work with thousands of pupils from every community, background and school type across the UK. Months of preparation culminate in exhilarating performance evenings in professional theatres nationwide; a night which can give confidence and self-esteem to last a lifetime.
Confidence and verbal dexterity lie at the heart of our profession and therefore we believe that the skills that this Foundation provides to its pupils are particularly well-matched to what we do. In addition to providing financial support, we have been involved in three unique fund-raising West End theatre productions, with our members John Kelsey-Fry QC and Ian Winter QC appearing alongside renowned actors in the trials of Hamlet, Macbeth & Richard III. https://www.shakespeareschools.org/support-us/trial
Millie Knight Paralympic skier
Millie Knight is a visually impaired young skier who was a member of the 2018 GB Paralympic team in South Korea, winning two silver medals and one bronze for Team GB. Her energy and ambition are both inspiring and infectious, and we’re proud to sponsor her quest to bring back gold from the Winter Paralympics in Beijing in 2022. http://millieknight.co.uk
Together Productions is a Community Interest Company that supports artistic projects aimed at building bridges within and between different communities.
Cloth Fair Chambers provides financial support for this important organisation, and our member, Clare Sibson QC, sits on its Board of Directors. http://togetherproductions.co.uk/index.html
