Nicholas Purnell QC and Clare Sibson QC successfuly defend John Varley, the former Chief Executive of Barclays, over charges of conspiracy to commit fraud brought by the Serious Fraud Office in respect of bank’s capital raising from Qatari investors in 2008. The Court of Appeal today upheld the decision reached at trial by Mr Justice Jay of insufficient evidence to proceed following arguments of no case to answer. John Varley has been acquitted of all charges.
