Arif Naqvi, founder of the failed private equity firm Abraaj Capital, has lost his final bid to avoid extradition to the U.S. following four years of contested extradition proceedings. Mr Naqvi is accused of leading a multimillion dollar scheme to defraud investors in a series of funds managed by Abraaj, with high profile victims including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. On 8 March 2023, Mr Naqvi’s application for leave to appeal against his extradition order was dismissed by Mr Justice Swift.
